Policemen break teacher’s arm in a horrible case of mistaken identity

It was an encounter with the police that he will never soon forget.

A primary school teacher from Lenggong, Ipoh allegedly had his left arm broken by two policemen after they mistook him for a drug addict.

According to The New Straits Times, Sheikh Ashrof was reportedly returning home at night after providing extra lessons for his pupils last weekend when two men wearing motorcycle helmets approached him.

Thinking that they were thugs, Sheikh reportedly made a run for it but he was caught.

The men then reportedly identified themselves as undercover policemen attached to the anti-narcotics department.

Despite protesting that he’s not a drug addict, the policemen roughly handcuffed Sheikh, allegedly breaking his left arm in the process.

At the police station, Sheikh reportedly asked the policemen to call the headmaster of the school to verify his identity.

He was eventually released after the headmaster went to the police station to explain the whole situation.

The headmaster then reportedly brought Sheikh to the hospital to treat his broken arm.

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Hanafi confirmed the incident, and he told the daily that the two policemen have been arrested.

“The policemen involved have been arrested today. We will apply for a remand order tomorrow (Sept 7) at the Pengkalan Hulu Magistrate’s Court.

“We will complete the investigation soon and will refer the case to the state prosecution director,” he was quoted as saying.
