Policeman and his daughter killed in hit-and-run

A policeman and his daughter were killed when the motorcycle they were on collided with a car at the Tuaran bypass road near Kota Kinabalu on Friday.

According to The Star Online, 53-year-old Sjn-Mejar Ahmad Ali Towpa was sending his 24-year-old daughter Shanur Amiera Ahmad to work at around 6.30am when a Perodua Myvi crashed into them.

They were both killed on the spot.

The driver of the Myvi reportedly fled the scene, but surrendered to the police later.

City police chief Asst Comm M. Chandra told The Star Online that the Myvi driver was at fault because he had swerved into the victim’s lane before crashing into them.

“Both Ahmad and Shanur were thrown from the motorcycle and sustained serious head injuries,” he was quoted as saying.

“The suspect fled the scene but later surrendered himself at the city police station,” he said, adding that the 32-year-old driver has been remanded to facilitate investigations.
