Policeman accidentally shoots children during struggle with wife

Like they say, when the parents fight, the children are the ones who always end up hurt.

Well, in this case, the saying was quite literal as a policeman, who was reportedly struggling with his wife over his pistol, accidentally shot his children on Sunday.

Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Ghafar Rajab told The New Straits Times that the incident happened at their home in Kampung Setol, Seberang Perai.

The policeman, who had earlier said that he wanted to shoot himself, allegedly fired a shot at the floor during a struggle with his wife, who was trying to wrestle the pistol away from him.

The shrapnel from the stray shot reportedly struck their five-year-old daughter and three-year-old son in the legs and calf.

Abdul Ghafar told the daily that the 33-year-old policeman has been detained to facilitate investigations.

“Following interrogation, he claimed that he was disturbed by spirits,” he was quoted as saying.
