The next time you’re out furniture shopping, it might be a good idea to check those drawers. Sometimes —like this one instance in Shah Alam — you could find heroin stashed in there.
Selangor police reportedly found a whopping 56kg of heroin — worth RM8.4 million — hidden inside special compartments within wooden furniture from Pakistan, Bernama reports.
Police arrested 13 people in two raids conducted in Semenyih recently. According to police, the furniture had been sent to Malaysia in containers using the normal procedures.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim was quoted as saying that among the 13 arrested — aged 26 to 62 years — were four Pakistani men and a local woman.
“We also seized a plastic packet believed containing cathinone (khat leaves) weighing 83 grams. Police have been monitoring the movement of this Pakistani syndicate since last year,” Noor Rashid said.
