It was an expensive night out for ninety-eight partygoers in Petaling Jaya in the wee hours of Monday after police raided the unnamed nightclub they were at for allegedly breaching the Conditional Movement Control Order, or CMCO.
Among them was a 39-year-old man who was arrested for allegedly hiring foreigners, including three women aged 21 to 40 without permits, and for selling alcoholic beverages illegally. The three women were also detained for allegedly violating their visas by not possessing a work permit.
Another two women were taken into police custody after testing positive for drugs.
Of the 98 people, 56 were men and 45 were women. Police did not reveal the name of the entertainment outlet they had partied at but said that it was located at popular nightlife district SS21 Damansara Utama. Most of them had worn face masks while partying.
Police raided the nightclub at 12.20am for operating illegally during the CMCO, which bans pubs, nightclubs, and bars from operating. Large gatherings are also not allowed under Malaysia’s COVID-19 regulations.
All partygoers face a fine of up to RM1,000 (US$230) and six months’ jail time for breaking the CMCO.
