A police outrider was killed and his wife suffered minor injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a divider at the KM256.4 mark of the North-South Expressway on Sunday.
According to The New Straits Times, Watmin Saiman, 56, and his wife Nor Hayati Meor Mohamed, 58, were travelling from Ipoh to Taiping in their SUV when the accident happened.
Kuala Kangsar district police chief ACP Ahmad Tarmizi Abd Haq told the daily that Watmin, who was off-duty at the time, is believed to have lost control of his car and crashed into a divider at the left side of the road.
The impact of the crash caused the MPV to overturn, ACP Ahmad Tarmizi said.
“The victim’s wife suffered minor injuries and is now receiving treatment at the Kuala Kangsar Hospital,” he was quoted as saying, adding that the road conditions were wet at the time of the incident.
