Police have launched an investigation into a Telegram channel that targeted celebrity preacher Ebit Lew by leaking lewd images and messages.
The investigation is focusing on the creator of that channel, fellow evangelist Firdaus Wong, who set it up to tens of thousands of subscribers as a platform to encourage more of Lew’s sexual harassment accusers to come forward. The matter is being investigated under laws against disturbing peace and improper use of the internet.
“The police would like to advise the public to be prudent in using big platforms so as not to bring public outrage or jeopardize investigations,” Criminal Investigation Department director Abd Jalil Hassan said in last night’s statement.
The channel is still available as of this morning, gaining 30,000 new subscribers overnight.
Videos of someone resembling the 36-year-old preacher wanking off made their way to the Telegram channel this week. Wong told reporters Tuesday that the videos, along with dick pictures and screenshots of sexually suggestive text messages, were evidence submitted to the police by Lew’s sexual harassment accusers. Police are investigating those accusations, which include lewd conversations and indecent videos sent to the victims.
Lew, who has more than five million followers online, has not publicly responded to the allegations.
