A police anti-narcotics team raided an upscale apartment in Bayan Lepas, Penang on Sunday and found a drug labaratory, according to a report by Bernama.
The news agency reported that the police arrested four members of a family – a man, his wife and two children, one of them an infant – and a maid at the premises during the 8am raid, an unnamed source told Bernama.
The source also added that the police seized a quantity of ketamine and several drug-processing equipment.
“The police are finding out when the laboratory was set up and where the drugs are being sent to,” the source was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, The New Straits Times reported that despite the amount of drugs seized, a police spokesperson denied that the condominium was used as a drug lab.
“There were several types of drugs found in the unit during the operations.
“However, the place is not used to process any drugs,” the spokesperson was quoted by the daily as saying.
The case is reportedly being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
