He knew it was coming.
Controversial rapper Namewee was arrested by the police the moment he stepped foot in the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
According to The Star Online, the 33-year-old had reportedly just returned from Singapore when he was picked up by the authorities on Sunday.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid told the daily that Namewee would be remanded in court on Monday.
Earlier this month, several NGOs lodged police reports over Namewee’s controversial “Oh My God” music video, which they claimed insulted Islam and other religions.
However, prior to his arrest, Namewee reportedly uploaded another version of the music onto his YouTube channel and Facebook page with the caption: “OH MY GOD it’s here! Wishing everyone a hungry ghost festival. PDRM sila tengok MV baru Namewee! (Police, please watch Namewee’s new music video!)”.
The new music video featured new scenes which included snippets from Taiwanese comedy ‘Da Xian Shen Wei (‘The Big Power’), and the controversial scenes taken at the mosque were removed.
Namewee claimed that the unedited version of the music video — the one which got him into trouble — was allegedly stolen and uploaded onto the internet by unknown hackers.
