Police: Explosives did not cause van at Jalan TAR to catch fire

Nope. The van that was seen on fire at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman on Monday was not the result of an explosion.

It was in fact a fire from the engine that caused the blaze, contrary to claims on social media that the incident was caused by explosives.

The Star Online quoted Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Amar Singh as saying that the van driver had noticed smoke coming from the engine as he was driving and then stopped the vehicle.

According to police the fire eventually spread and destroyed the van completely. Firemen reportedly reached the scene at 9am and the fire was put out in 10 minutes.

Comm Amar said, however, that police were looking into the false news that the van had blown up because of explosives.

“Police will investigate the source of this fake news,” he was quoted as saying.
