Police to deploy 3,000 cops to Sungai Besar for by-election

The police will deploy some 3,000 personnel and officers to secure Sungai Besar during its parliamentary by-election tomorrow.

Bernama reports that the cops would be stationed at every road intersection at all polling districts.

“Voters are advised to come out early to exercise their right. Voters living outside the constituency are advised to come early as well as as they could be held up by traffic congestion along the Klang-Teluk Intan trunk road,” the police’s media relations officer for the by-election, ACP Khalil Griffin was quoted as saying.

He told the news agency that those with ‘no business in Sungai Besar’ should use alternative routes to Teluk Intan or Kuala Selangor.

“The police will also ensure security at the vote-tallying centre at the Sri Bernam Hall where the announcement of the by-election result will be made,” he was quoted further.

More than 42,300 voters are expected to cast their votes during tomorrow’s polls at 28 polling centres in two state constituencies — Sungai Panjang and Sekinchan — from 8am to 5pm.

The by-election was announced following the death of incumbent and deputy minister Noriah Kasnon, who perished in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak, on May 5.
