Police arrest taxi driver who allegedly assaulted Uber driver

The police have arrested a taxi driver who allegedly assaulted an Uber driver on Monday.

According to a report by the China Press, as translated by Free Malaysia Today, the 44-year-old suspect was detained at Batu Caves at 11.15pm on Thursday.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Amar Singh Ishar Singh told the Chinese daily that the arrest was made after an Iranian tourist, who was reportedly injured in the incident, lodged a police report.

Amar Singh also urged the Uber driver to come forward and lodge a police report to help facilitate investigation.

On Wednesday, the Chinese daily reported that 50 taxi drivers ‘ambushed’ and assaulted the Uber driver and an Iranian couple. The couple was reportedly dragged out of the vehicle by the taxi drivers, injuring one of them in the process. The drivers were also said to have broken the vehicle’s window.

The police have since cleared the air, claiming that the report was exaggerated as investigations revealed that only one taxi driver was involved in the scuffle. They have also denied that the car window was smashed and the tourist was injured.
