Police will arrest controversial rapper/director Namewee after his latest music video reportedly caused a public furore.
The Malay Mail Online quotes Penang Northeast district police chief Assistant Commisioner Mior Faridalathrash Wahid as saying that the 33-year-old, who is reportedly overseas at the moment, will be detained as soon as he returns to Malaysia to help facilitate investigations.
“We will arrest him as soon as he returns to Malaysia to help in the investigations on the video clip recording which has been said to have spread through social media platforms like Facebook and Whatsapp last week,” ACP Mior was quoted as saying.
Last week, the police began investigating Namewee’s music video “Oh My God” for allegedly insulting Islam as well as other faiths.
In the video, which has since been deleted from YouTube, Namewee was seen dancing and singing in a mosque.
Several non-governmental organisations have reportedly lodged police reports over the music video.
