Prime Minister Najib Razak has summoned the political bureau of his Malay parthy UMNO to the PM’s Office today, just two days before a long-postponed UMNO Supreme Council meeting which is speculated to determine the fate of UMNO deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin and vice-president Shafie Apdal.
An image of a letter with the letterhead and signature of UMNO secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansor has leaked online, detailing an invitation to an UMNO political bureau building scheduled for 9.30am today at the PMO in Putrajaya.

Chairing the meeting would be UMNO president Najib.
A source told The Malaysian Insider‘s MD Izwan that Muhyiddin and Shafie, both recently culled from Najib’s Cabinet due to their criticism of how the PM was handling the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, would likely attend the meeting.
Neither Tengku Adnan nor the special officers for Muhyiddin and Shafie have responded to TMI‘s request for comments on the matter.
This follows an earlier meeting on September 1, which was also held in the PMO, but without the attendance of Muhyiddin and Shafie.
“Muhyiddin and Shafie might attend this Monday’s meeting. But they were not invited to the pre-Supreme Council meeting on September 1. “Only a few Supreme Council members close to Najib went,” said the source.
Also curious is the fact that UMNO has not yet called for a Supreme Council management meeting, which customarily precedes a Supreme Council meeting. The UMNO deputy president, currently Muhyiddin, chairs the management meeting.
UMNO’s Supreme Council has postponed its meeting since Juy 31, directly after the Cabinet reshuffle which saw the ouster of Muhyiddin and Shafie, as well as severa other ministers, from their government posts.
September 9’s meeting needs to happen or UMNO’s Supreme Council will run afoul of the party’s constitution.
A message circulating on WhatsApp is claiming that Muhyiddin and Shafie, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, Datuk Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir, Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, Datuk Hamidah Osman and Datuk Jumat Idris will be axed from Umno in Wednesday’s meeting.
