PM Najib asked Jakim to steer Malaysian Muslims away from Islamic State

Prime Minister Najib Razak announced a new Bill, designed to take on the threat of militant activities in Malaysia, including those carried out by Islamic State, will be tabled in Parliament in March.

The PM said that besides the new law, government authorities such as the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) would be tasked with playing a more active role in explaining the true meaning of ‘jihad’, or holy struggle, to Malaysian Muslims.

“Efforts to handle those who have been misguided about jihad will be shared by other authorities, too.

“Jakim will be going all out to explain the true meaning of jihad,” he said, as reported by The Star Online

Last year, Najib tabled a white paper entitled Towards Tackling the Threat of the IS Group
