Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday launched the nationwide “Price Reduction” campaign involving 10 selected supermarket chains, to ease the people’s efforts in dealing with rising living costs.
Phase 1 of the campaign will be carried out over a period of six months, and will see the participation of supermarket chains Exonsave, Mydin, KK Mart, Aeon, Aeon Big, Tesco, 99 Speedmart, NKS, Segi Fresh Mart and Giant.
The 10 chains have a total of 955 branches operating throughout the country.
When launching the campaign at the Aeon outlet in Balakong, Najib said, “With this campaign, the supermarket chains involved will offer discounts of 15 to 70 per cent on products.”
Among the items listed under the “Price Reduction” campaign’s discounts are fresh produce, forzen food, dried food, beverages, and baby and children’s items.
Najib was confident that the large discounts to be offered by the participating chains would be appreciated by the people, and would help them face the rising cost living.
Malaysians have been hit with rising prices on necessities and utilities as well as subsidy cuts on petroleum and sugar in the past several months, prompting thousands to take to the streets in the #TURUN protest this past New Year’s Eve, and many more to voice their discontent over social media networks.
