PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi arrested

PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Ahmad was arrested at his home near Shah Alam late last night, making his case the latest in a string of activist and politician arrests over the past week.

The Malaysian Insider reports that Nik Nazmi was at his home in Denai Alam when 10 police officers from Dang Wang district police headquarters’ serious crime unit arrived at his doorstep.

The Opposition party’s communications director Fahmi Fadzil told the portal: “Nik Nazmi was with his wife and child when the police came to the house.”

Quoting a police source, TMI reports that the Seri Setia assemblyman was being probed for unlawful assembly.

Two days ago, student activist Adam Adli was arrested during a rally outside the Sogo mall in KL. The rally was a show of support for jailed Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim attended by Nik Nazmi and Anwar’s daughter Nurul Nuha.

Anwar was jailed on Feb 10 after the Federal Court upheld a Court of Appeal verdict that found the 67-year-old guilty of sodomising his ex-aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

On Friday, police arrested activist Lawrence Jayaraj over comments posted on Facebook that criticised the outcome of Anwar’s case. The arrest came just hours after the release of Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s secretary-general S.Arutchelvan for a similar offence.
