PJ one-way traffic loop may become permanent

Update your Waze routes: the one-way traffic loop curently in place all over Petaling Jaya might be made permanent.

The new system, which began a three-month trial on October 12, could become a permanent fixture, according to PJ mayro Alinah Ahmad, following positive feedback from motorists.

“The trial was scheduled to last until January 12 but we might bring it forward now,” she said, as quoted by The Malay Mail Online‘s Benedict Ng.

However, the MBPJ hasn’t only received glowing reviews – the new system has also given rise to a host of complaints, among them the lack of road signs and street lights, arrows painted to point the wrong way, and general safety concerns for pedestrians.

“We appreciate the feedback by the public and we will do what we can to further smoothen the traffic flow,” Alinah said in response.

The fact that the new system has improved the flow of traffic in the area does not make it likely that it would be scrapped any time soon, though.

Alinah said the MBPJ would set up a specific hotline for motorist to lodge further complaints instead of jamming up the city council’s general public service number.

The new one-way loop system caused consternation among motorists in the first two weeks of its implementation, who claimed the new route was confusing.

The MBPJ addressed these initial concerns by installing more street lights along Jalan Semangat, functional traffic light push buttons along Jalan Yong Shook Lin, Jalan Barat and Jalan Timur, and road signages around the loop.

Traffic officers have also been placed at bottleneck locations to further smoothen out traffic flow.
