Photo collective releases heartwarming #BERSIH4 “Negaraku” video

There’s nothing quite like a rendition of the national anthem to water down rhetoric that a street demonstration is out to destroy the country.

Local photography enthusiast collective Endless Smile put together a video of #BERSIH4 protesters singing “Negaraku” in the streets of downtown Kuala Lumpur last weekend, with on-the-ground footage and aerial shots taken from the collective’s drones.

The #BERSIH4 mass gathering, which took place over 34 consecutive hours on August 29 and 30 in KL, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, as well as 50 other cities across the globe, was hit with allegations that it was intended to overthrow the Malaysian Government before it even began, and was hampered by multiple denial of permission from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).

The Home Ministry also declared the event illegal, and gazetted a ban on the colour yellow, Bersih 4 t-shirts, anyhting with the Bersih 4 logo, and other related publications and merchandise, just a day before the protest took place.
