The authorities have shot dead the monkey which bit and injured a six-year-old girl in Alor Setar on Monday, according to a report by Bernama.
Kedah Wildlife and National Park Department director Mohamad Hafid Rohani told the news agency that the three-year-old monkey was shot on Wednesday morning with the help of Kampung Paya Mengkuang villagers.
“The monkey was believed to be a pet of one of the local residents. It had a neck collar affixed to a chain.
“We are still investigating the identity of the owner,” he was quoted as saying.
According to Mohamad Hafid, the authorities were allowed to shoot the monkey, of the Macaca Nemestrina species, under Sections 55(1) and 55(3) of the Wildlife Con-servation Act, which grants the public the permission to capture or shoot dead an animal which is a danger to human life.
On Monday, Nur Syahadatul Fatehah Mohd Shahbudin was reportedly playing with her friends when the monkey attacked her, biting her on the right calf until a bone protruded.
