A high school in Perlis was hit by mass hysteria on Tuesday – the third such case in the school in less than two weeks.
According to The New Straits Times, the first incident reportedly happened on July 29 when three female students suddenly became hysterical.
The hysteria then reportedly spread to more than ten students, including one male pupil.
State Education Department director Izmi Ismail told the daily that the situation returned to normal a few days after closing the school on August 2.
However, the mass hysteria reportedly returned earlier this week.
“It appeared that the hysteria was under control for a few days after the school reopened, but unfortunately, it recurred recently.
“However, it is under control again and the school and the department are doing everything to resolve the problem,” Izmi was quoted by the daily as saying.
Izmi added that the department and the school board will be seeking help from Islamic experts to handle the mass hysteria.
Earlier this year, SMK Pengkalan Chepa 2 in Kota Bharu experienced several cases of mass hysteria, which affected more than 30 students. A spirit was also reportedly captured on camera roaming the school grounds.
