Perkasa now wants a crackdown on nudists – because of course

After the “Malaysia Nudist Sports Games” video going viral on Malaysian social media, online bafflement, mockery and outrage was only to have been expected. Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has already defended his administration, in whose state the video was allegedly shot, and calls for police action have already been made.

So it should come as no surprise that Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia’s (Perkasa) Penang chapter has likewise jumped into the fray, with the kind of glee only a controversy-addicted Malay-Muslim rights organisation of its calibre can muster.

Perkasa Penang Youth chief Mohd Rizuad Mohd Aizuddin are calling for the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to hunt down the individuals shown participating in the video’s nudist activities, and if they are proven to be foreign tourists, to ban them from ever entering the country again.

Mohd Rizuad wants this done so that such “disgusting incidents” were not repeated. And, of course, to heal the wounds caused to the sensitivities of Muslims and Malays in the country.

“The fact that the video was shot here in this country and has gone viral where Islam is the official religion, is an insult to the Muslims here.

“The authorities should really take this seriously and hunt down the culprits as it was a humiliating act,” he said, after lodging a report at the Northeast district police station.

The Rakyat Post reports that Mohd Riuad went on to say the video, which was posted to Vimeo about two months ago, was “damning and insulting” to the sensitivities of the local community.

He also added that the actions of the nudist event’s participants as depicted in the video were uncivilised, and were akin to the behaviour of animals.

Mohd Rizuad demanded that the Penang state government investigate the possibility of other such events having taken place in other parts of the state, and vowed that Perkasa – a non-governmental organisation with no legislative or law enforcement powers – would ensure that such incidents would never be repeated.
