The Federal Government wants you to get hitched en masse. In the name of 1Malaysia!
The Ministry of Women’s Development, Family and Community is going to launch a new programme called Perkahwinan Mega 1Malaysia (1Malaysia Mega Weddings) to entice more Malaysians of every race and religion to tie the knot.
Minister Rohani Abdul Karim said her ministry had not yet set a date or venue for the programme, slated to kick off some time next year, as it would still need to gauge public engagement through registrations to Perkahwinan Mega 1Malaysia.
“We’re still looking for a suitable date, and if the response is encouraging, we’d very much like to invite Prime Minister Najib Razak to attend,” she said, as reported by Harian Metro.
She was confident that many couples would sign up for the mass wedding reception, as it was going to be marketed as a landmark event showcasing different facets of Malysian culture.
A precursor to the programme, called the Majlis Mega Seri Pengantin 2014, was aimed at encouraging more Muslims to marry, and was jointly organised by the Deparment of Islamic Development (Jakim) and the Malaysian Ihtimam Foundation.
