Penang uncle is the winner of Malaysia’s biggest lottery jackpot ever

A 40-year-old Penang businessman has struck it lucky, and won the country’s biggest lottery jackpot of RM69.6 million (US$16.6 million) in the Grand Toto lottery.

The man spent only RM50 (US$15) to put 25 sets of Lucky Pick numbers to win the jackpot in a single draw on September 13.

He confessed to the New Straits Times that he had only been playing the Sports Toto games for four years, and had been playing his car number plates. No wins.

Last Wednesday, on his way to dinner, he found himself like every other Malaysian trying to get anywhere at that time – in traffic. He peeped a Sports Toto outlet, and decided to try his luck, as the big win had been a hot topic of conversation among his friends.

He decided to try his luck with Grand Toto, putting down RM50 on Grand Toto 6/63.

Leaving he forgot entirely about it, until after the numbers had been read. When he finally did check, after reading the last two numbers, 52 and 53, he realized that he had the winning ticket.

He then asked his brother to check, just to make sure, and the numbers were confirmed.

When asked what he plans to do with all this money, he told reporters that he would pay off loans, invest in some properties, and of course, donate to charity.

Happy winnings, sir.
