Penang Uber driver claims to pick-up spirit from cemetery, we ask ‘what’s a ghost’s rating these days?’

An Uber driver had the fright of his life when a recent pick-up asked to be collected from a large Chinese cemetery in Mount Erskine in Penang. It was around midnight when the booking was made. Feeling creeped out yet?

China Press reports that the driver followed the instructions and waited at the cemetery for his would-be passenger in dead of night. He initially believed that it could have been a person who was tending to a grave. When no one appeared, he felt that “something” was in the car. Dun dun.

“After about five minutes, there was a sweet scent in my car,” he said. “Since I was already there, I wanted to get the fare. So, I tapped ‘Start Trip’ on the app and began driving.

A flagrant abuse of Uber policy in starting a trip without a passenger, but the company, as yet, does not have protocol on ghosts. You’ve got to admire the man’s tenacity to leave no fare behind.

As it turns out, the ghost, like so many of us, was a bit lazy, and only wanted to go 100 meters down the road. The Uber driver obliged, and later went to use the restroom at a petrol station.

It was here that he decided to speak to the apparition, or as those of us in the ghost world say “confronting spirit.” He told spirit that sorry but, “I need to go back home now. You better get out, remember don’t follow me back.” Wait – so did the spirit travel 100 meters, or did it decide to stay along for the ride to the petrol station? Either way, by the time he got back to his car, the sweet scent was gone.

You never know with ghosts these days. One second they’re dressed in Victorian garb, next thing you know, they’ve got a phone plan, a credit card, and an Uber account.

One question to the driver: what’s a ghost’s ratings like? I can’t seem to move past 4.82 no matter how much polite conversation I make.
