All he wanted to do was to park his car by the roadside, but he ended up being beaten up instead.
A 38-year-old man, identified only as Khor, was reportedly assaulted by an illegal jaga kereta (car park attendant) and four of his friends at Weld Quay in Penang.
According to The Star Online, the incident happened on Monday when Khor had just parked his car by the roadside.
The jaga kereta, who is in his 50s, reportedly approached Khor and demanded for money.
“I asked him why I needed to pay him for parking by the roadside and he replied that I just needed to pay. I handed him RM50 but he refused to take it as he had no change,” he was quoted as saying.
As Khor went into a shop to get some small change, the man reportedly got angry and started shouting at Khor, who was with his two sons at that time.
The man then left the scene but not long after, he came back with four of his friends, armed with iron rods and sticks.
Khor told the news portal that the men allegedly started beating him up.
“I was left bruised and bleeding. I managed to make my way to the Penang Hospital where I received outpatient treatment,” he was further quoted as saying.
The attack left Khor with a gash on his head, which reportedly needed 30 stitches to close.
The next day, Khor reportedly lodged a report at the Patani Road police station.
