Patrol car rams into trailer, policeman killed

A police car on patrol duty rammed into a trailer early Saturday morning, killing one police officer and injuring another, Bernama reports.

Kluang police chief ACP Mohamad Laham told the news agency that the accident happened at the KM78 mark of Jalan Johor Baharu-Ayer Hitam at around 1.30am.

Corporal Basri Yaacob, 34, and Lance Corporal Mohd Amirul Hakim Abd Latif, 31, were reportedly on patrol duty when the car they were in slammed into the back of the trailer, which was parked by the side of the road.

Corporal Basri reportedly died while receiving treatment at the Kluang Hospital.

Corporal Mohd Amirul, meanwhile, suffered a fractured leg and was warded at the same hospital.

The trailer driver managed to escape without any injury, according to ACP Mohamad Laham.

ACP Mohamad Laham told Bernama that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
