Passers-by, cop work hand-in-hand to rescue accident victim

Faith in humanity restored!

Police and passers-by formed a human chain to rescue an accident victim whose car plunged into a ravine in Kuala Kubu Bharu on Wednesday.

Quoted by The New Straits Times, Hulu Selangor police chief Superintendent R. Suparmaniam said the accident happened on KM56 of Jalan KL-Ipoh at 7am when the driver, 50-year-old M. Jayaselven, tried to avoid a speeding motorcyclist from the opposite direction.

“Initial investigation revealed that the motorcyclist was trying to overtake a lorry when the incident happened. Jayaselven was stunned upon seeing the motorcycle make a sudden swerve into his lane and instinctively steered away to avoid collision.

“That was when the victim lost control of his car and crashed into a 10m-deep ravine on the left side,” Suparmaniam was quoted as saying.

A traffic policeman from the Hulu Selangor police headquarters, Lance Corporal Mohd Zulfitri Hashim, rushed to the scene of the accident.

After checking on Jayaselven, who was conscious, Mohd Zulfitri reportedly enlisted the help of several other passers-by to form a human chain to bring Jayaselven to safety.

Jayaselven was then rushed to the Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital for treatment.
