Your neighbourhood ‘pasar malam’ is about to get a ‘transformation’, thanks to a government initiated programme to enhance the image of night markets in Kuala Lumpur.
This upgrade — termed the Night Market Transformation Programme — will involve four aspects: management, uniformity, cleanliness and compliance with licence requirements.
The programme aims to tidy up the look and feel of night markets in the city — with canopies, tables and aprons will be supplied for free to the eligible night market traders.
Bernama quotes Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor was quoted as saying that the KL City Hall would also do its part to give these pasar malams the upgrade they need.
There are currently 98 night markets in the city, with 75 of them registered with the City Hall. The government aims to get this programme fully implemented by year end.
