Brilliant suggestions were floated at a recent PAS workshop on community outreach, among them the notion from Dr Ahmad Solehin that the LGBTQ+ community would benefit from certain holistic therapies to “treat them.”
You know what they say, one step forward, one antediluvian step back into whatever the world was like before we discovered fire.
According to PAS mouthpiece, HarakahDaily, Dr Solehin told attendees that among the therapies that LGBTQ+ could benefit from were ones that targeted pornography addiction (did no one tell him Malaysia in general is one of PornHub’s biggest customers?), social media network ties (again, does he know how popular this stuff is, like – in general?), fasting, and hormone therapy.
Well, color me purple and call me Tinky Winky – we just don’t think any of those are going to get you any results.
You know, because “gay therapy,” or “conversion therapy” or even PAS-approved “holistic LGBTQ+ therapy” just doesn’t work.
Just ask Randy Thomas, who used to lead an ex-gay group until he realized that there’s really no such thing as ex-gay. Or what about nine leaders of the gay conversion movement in the US, who apologized to all of those who underwent their therapies, who were not left any less LGBTQ+ than when they started, but certainly walked around with a greater sense of shame of who they were.
Dr Solehin elaborated that not only were local workshop participants fighting to lead those in the LGBTQ+ community on the right path, they were also fighting the international gay agenda.
He has a suggestion though, as to how to infiltrate the group, who are more tightly knit than a pair of Provincetown bike shorts.
“We can use the ‘snowball’ technique,” he says.
Ahahahaha. Wait. What? Snowball? Aiyo.
Sir, you might want to find another, um … technique to reference. Just a tip from us to you, no extra charge.
Dr Solehin believes that once he “snowballs” into the LGBTQ+ community, it’s only a matter of time before one member introduces him to others in the group.
Well, that’s one way, yes. Grindr is another.
The Saturday workshop was organized by PAS’s Dewan Muslimat bureau, a part of the women’s wing that does outreach in both the Muslim and non-Muslim community.
Bureau chair Dr Mardhiyah Hayati Salleh said that the workshop was intended to understand the LGBTQ+ issue and plan appropriate action.
