Parking charges in several KL areas increase by 150 percent from today

Remember that announcement recently about a two-hour parking cap for vehicles in the Kuala Lumpur’s city’s central business district (CBD)?

Well, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has decided to trash that idea. They have something else for you and it’s not all that different, really.

Starting today, parking charges for all DBKL-owned parking bays in the CBD have increased by 150% — making the hourly parking rate cost RM2 for the first hour, from the previous 80sen, The Star Online reported.

Rates have been set at RM3 for the second hour and RM3 for subsequent hours, the news site reported — and if you’re parking in the city for an entire day, be prepared to pay up to RM32 a day.

Affected areas are: Bukit Bintang, Bukit Damansara, Sri Hartamas, Desa Hartamas, Solaris Mont Kiara, Taman Tun Dr Ismail and Bangsar.

According to the report, parking lots in these areas are taken up by 75% to 100% during peak hours.

These new charges will come into effect in stages from now until Aug 1. DBKL owns a total of 46,100 metered parking bays in the city.

Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor had announced earlier this month that all vehicles in the CBD would be allowed just two hours in metered parking lots owned by DBKL.
