Pandelela, Jun Hoong wins Malaysia’s first medal at the Olympic Games

Malaysia is finally on the board!

Divers Pandelela Rinong and Cheong Jun Hoong won the first medal for the country at the ongoing Rio Olympic Games.

According to The New Straits Times, the pair clinched the silver medal in the women’s 10m platform synchronised diving on Tuesday.

With a total score of 344.34 points, they trailed only China’s Chen Ruolin-Liu Huixia (354.55) in the event.

Canada’s Meaghan Benfeito-Roseline Filion clinched the bronze medal with a total score of 336.18 points.

Both Pandelela and Jun Hoong were never out of medal contention in all five dives; after the first two dives, they were placed joint-second, third after the third dive and they held on to the second place after the fourth dive.

This was Pandelela’s second Olympics medal, having won the bronze medal in the 10m diving event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
