With the appointment of Selangor’s next Menteri Besar happening next Tuesday, questions remain as to who exactly will fill the shoes of embattled current MB Khalid Ibrahim.
Sources close to the Selangor Palace, while declining to reveal the exact identity of the new MB, told the New Straits Times‘ Mazlinda Mahmood and Nuradilla Noorazam that “it is not a woman” – meaning Pakatan Rakyat’s endorsed candidate for the job, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, is out of the running.
With Wan Azizah’s likely exclusion, the MB post is popularly thought to either go to PKR deputy president Azmin Ali or Selangor PAS commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad. However, both have denied having been informed of the palace’s decision on the matter.
Private secretary to Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor, Mohamad Munir Bani, confirmed yesterday that the state’s new MB would indeed be sworn in next Tuesday morning. While declining to reveal the new MB’s identity, he confirmed that details of an invitation card sent out for the swearing-in ceremony to be held at the Istana Alam Shah were accurate.
