PAC: Shah Alam Hospital ready after nearly eight years in construction

A brand new hospital — previously stranded in construction hell for four years — has been completed in Shah Alam.

The Shah Alam Hospital is expected to be fully operational by January 2016, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed had said, Bernama reports.

Nur Jazlan said the hospital’s construction took a total of seven years and four months — a result of the the original contractor, Sunshine Fleet Sdn Bhd’s failure to complete the project since 2007. The project was then handed over to a new contractor, Gadang Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd.

“The company received the project in Nov 2007 and it should have been completed within three years but in September 2010, the Works Department terminated the contract as it was only 27 percent completed besides incurring a cost of RM139.9 million,” he said.

The Health Ministry, he added, would get the building by the end of June.
