The PAC might not be able to call Jho Low to answer questions about 1MDB

Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) might not get the chance to grill Malaysian playboy billionaire Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low, over his alleged involvement in shenanigans surrounding troubled sovereign development fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

PAC deputy chairperson Dr Tan Seng Giaw said the committee would have to conduct a thorough review of applicable laws before going ahead with summoning Low for an interview.

“The people want us to capture everything in one net.

“However, we are focussing on four officers. They will provide us a lot of information,” Tan said today, as quoted by Malaysiakini

The four he mentioned are Treasury secretary-general Irwan Serigar Abdullah, Economic Planning Unit (EPU) director-general Rahmat Bivi Abdullah, 1MDB chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy and his predecessor Shahrul Ibrahim Halmi.

“We will find out who are the decision makers.”

The PAC’s probe into 1MDB is slated to begin on May 19, and will conclude on May 26.

Low was last known to be residing in Hong Kong, and has disavowed any wrongdoing in relation to 1MDB’s operations to the press.
