Owls roped in to help get rid of rats in Subang Jaya

Subang Jaya will witness the Great Rodent Control of 2015 — with a little help from nature.

The Star Metro reports that the Subang Jaya Municipal council, in collaboration with  Universiti Sains Malaysia and the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) will be unleashing owls to catch rats plaguing the district’s hygiene.

Council president Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan was quoted as saying that the project will begin next month and last for two years.

“The project will go on for two years and, after the first six months, we will review its effectiveness.  The birds will be fed rat meat before the project begins to familiarise them with their prey,” he was quoted as saying.

The owls will be released in two commercial areas in USJ.
