Overhead signboard collapses in Klang, blocks up traffic

The morning commute got way more unbearable for some drivers in Klang yesterday when an overhead signboard collapsed onto a section of road near Batu 4 along Jalan Meru.

The incident, which reportedly occured at around 6am, took commuters on their way to work by surprise, and as a consequence blocked up traffic throughout the area.

The Star Online reports that North Klang district police officers cleared away the debris after being alerted to the mishap.

The section of road was reopened at around 8am, but traffic was still slow-moving, as drivers took their time to look at the collapsed structure by the roadside.

North Klang deputy OCPD Superintendent Nor Omar Sappi said the collapse was due to a lorry’s tipper rising suddenly and hitting the signboard, ripping it off its moorings.

No injuries were reported in connection to the collapse.
