Over the past month, 17 people have died in Selangor of dengue fever

Dengue is still a killer roving large swathes of Malaysia, and just last month, 17 people have died of the infectious disease in Selangor alone.

Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali revealed that out of the 17 deaths, 11 were recorded to have occured in the Petaling district.

Azmin told Sinar Harian that the dengue situation in the state was still worrying, with a 75% increase in cases to 6,686 in January, with 3,212 cases in Petaling.

In January 2014, the number of dengue cases in Selangor was only 3,813.

Azmin said that a special wide-ranging programme would be launched in Petaling on February 7 and 8 to deter more dengue cases from popping up.
