C’mon folks.
Despite the introduction of waste seperation last year, only a mere 17% of Malaysians have made recycling a habit.
Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan told The New Straits Times that despite the government’s all-in effort to promote recycling through various campaigns and activities, Malaysians have yet to adopt the “recycling culture”.
“The average increase in solid waste generated rises sharply at 6.7 per cent in a year, which is more than the three percent recorded globally. “We cannot be proud of this two-fold increase,” he was quoted as saying by the daily.
Abdul Rahman also added that the authorities have so far inspected 367,651 premises and issued 85,239 reminders to the owners to advise them to practice waste separation.
This came after the government put a harsher RM1,000 compound for households that fail to separate their garbage from 1 June.
