Official: “Malaysia’s Biggest and Longest Pulut Panggang” is now a thing

Perhaps thnking it needed to do more to put itself on the map, and maybe throw a little shade on bigger sister Kuching, Sibu played host to the preparation and unveiling of what is now recognized as the country’s biggest and longest “pulut panggang”, or grilled glutinous rice wrapped in banana leaf.

The Malaysia Book of Records was in town last night to certify that the 5.5m long, 22cm thick pulut panggang – weighing in at a this’ll-take-all-month-to-finish-by-myself 160kg, was indeed the biggest – and yes, longest – pulut panggang ever made.

Nurul Huda Zakaria of the Malaysia Book of Records presented the certificate to Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee at a Hari Raya do here on Sunday night.

The presentation of the certificate was witnessed by Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

Bernama reports that the mammoth pulut panggang’s creator, 55-year old Sarakawi Bayau, used up 150kg of glutinous rice, 60kg of coconut milk, four gunny sacks of charcoal and RM30 worth of banana leaves.

With the assistance of 30 workers, most of whom were family members, Sarakawi took about 18 hours to prepare and grill the pulut panggang.
