Nose trip: a syndicate has been selling liquid ecstasy in perfume bottles

Police have cracked down on a syndicate that has been selling a liquid form of the party drug ecstasy in small perfume bottles at KL and Negeri Sembilan nightclubs.

Nine men and a woman were arrested in connection to the syndicate, and police seized an assortment of drugs worth about RM8 million.

This is the first time ecstasy  has been found to be distributed and sold in liquid form –  it is usually sold as pills. Investigators believe the modification was made to avoid detection.

According to Bernama, Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the 10 suspects, aged between 21 and 37, were arrested over a series of operations in Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan from March until June 7.

He said the operations resulted in the seizure of the RM8 million worth of drugs, found in a car and from an apartment in Kampung Cheras Baru.

The drugs included 392,000 erimin 5 pills; 2,325 ecstasy pills; 1.4kg of ketamine; 88 grammes of syabu powder; 38 grammes of ecstasy powder; and, 835ml of ecstacy (liquid form) in perfume bottles.

Noor Rashid said police investigations had indicated that two of the suspects were ‘joint-leaders’ of the syndicate who were detained while waiting for customers in a car near a restaurant in Jalan Labu, Negeri Sembilan on June 7.

He said the police also found drugs in the vehicle, comprising 50,000 erimin pills, 5,100 ecstacy pills and three grammes of ketamine.

“This time, they tried to distribute liquid ecstacy in small perfume bottles to hoodwink the authorities into thinking it was perfume,” he said.

“The liquid ecstacy would be mixed into the drink of a buyer and could easily be disposed in the event of a police raid.”
