Travelers returning to Malaysia from Friday onwards will be taken to designated centers for mandatory two-week quarantine instead of their homes, Defense Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced today.
The new measure was announced as Malaysia continues to report COVID-19 cases, including 15 new infections today. Four of which were imported.
“From Friday (July 24) onwards, there will be no more home quarantine,” he said. “Quarantine will be done at designated centers.”
“Those in quarantine will bear the full costs, whether it’s in a hotel or a location provided by the government,” Ismail added.
As of today, a total of 8,815 people have been infected with COVID-19 in Malaysia. The death toll stands at 123.
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday said that the government was mulling making face masks compulsory in the country.
