A 31-second video purportedly showing a Malaysian ‘VIP’ falling into a swamp while officiating the launch of an innovative backhoe trash compactor has spread like wildfire on social media.
Sorry to disappoint you guys, but the video is actually a hoax.
In the video, several people were seen officiating the launch of a trash compactor, said to be a ground-breaking machine invented by the Malaysian Innovation Agency.
The caption claimed that the Deputy Minister of Environment was on hand to launch the machine.
As the machine approaches dry land, it started sinking into the swamp as Ceiline Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On”, the theme song of ‘Titanic’, started playing in the background.
How appropriate, right?
As it turns out, the actual incident took place in Goa, India almost two months ago.
The mayor of Panaji, Surendra Furtado, and several other officials reportedly climbed onto a weeding machine during a product demonstration event at the St Inez creek on June 26.
Due to the excessive weight — the weeding machine was designed to only carry two people — the machine turned turtle, throwing its ‘passengers’ into the creek.
As a result, Furtado suffered a bruised ego in the incident.
