No escape for culprits in alleged Tioman rape case, says DPM

The government said there would be ‘no cover up’ in any criminal case involving its officers.

Commenting on the recent allegation of rape and sexual assault of an underage girl in Pulau Tioman, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi gave his word that nobody would escape punishment if there was evidence that they committed the crime, Bernama reported.

“I will ensure no one including government officers slip away from any action. Actions will be taken against any police officers who covered up (cases involving government officers),” he was quoted as saying.

The shocking rape and sexual assault allegation reportedly involved five men, including a Customs officer.

The Star quoted Rompin police chief DSP Muhammad Aidil Roneh Abdullah as saying that six people, including a woman, have been detained over the case.

Muhammad Aidil however, reportedly denied the involvement of a Customs personnel, the daily said.
