There seems to be no stopping this ’36 hour’ rumour that firing up social media and messaging platforms.
Two days ago the Malaysian Meteorological Department said it had not issued a tsunami and thunderstorm warning. And now, the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti) has released a statement denying that an earthquake would hit Pahang.
Both rumours indicated that these disasters would occur within 36 hours.
“The rumours on social media that an earthquake and tsunami are set to hit Pahang within the next 36 hours are completely untrue. The public should not easily believe rumours spread on social media that do not originate from the Malaysian Meteorological Department,” Mosti said in a statement on its Facebook channel.
