With #420 (that’s April 20 for us squares) just having recently passed, there were surely some pockets of Malaysian society that tried to celebrate the globally-acknowledged day for marijuana appreciation, but one such attempt was shut down by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).
Local police in Dungun, Terengganu, descended upon a “Pesta #420” in Pantai Teluk Gadong and arrested four men aged between 18 and 27 years old for participating in what would have been an orgiastic gathering of degenerate pot smokers yesterday evening.
Terengganu state police chief Rosli Ab Rahman said the PDRM received information regarding the party after teasers for the event were circulated on social media networks since April 12.
“During the raid, two suspects were found to be wearing T-shirts emblazoned with the word ‘DAMAI’ (‘PEACE’), and were in possession of 13 rolled up cigarettes believed to contain ganja leaves, as well as a solid block of dried leaves, also believed to be ganja, sealed in a candy wrapper,” he said, as quoted by The Malay Mail Online.
The amount of weed confiscated at the failed party weighed in at 22.3 grammes, with an estimated street value of RM250.
Police have not discounted the possibility that the marijuana was obtained from a source outside its local jurisdiction.
Terengganu has been rife with weird goings-on this week; on Wednesday (the actual #420, if you’ve been keeping track) the Terengganu Islamic Affairs and Malay Culture Council announced that it would give RM15,000 business grants to mat rempits who want to leave a life of illegal street racing, and just yesterday we reported on five Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) students falling into a ravine near Kuala Besut after trying to take a selfie in the jungle.
Maybe the cops didn’t crack down on the weed soon enough …
