Ninety-something Tun M shows up to forum discussing whether he’s too old to be PM: ‘Say it to my face’

A special guest hit a forum yesterday entitled “Is Tun M too old to be PM?” – openly, and rather directly, discussing whether the 93-year-old former statesman was fit to lead the country again.

Malaysia’s next general election will be called in the coming months, and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is the opposition’s leader.

Tun M may be a nonagenarian, seven years away from hitting 100, but his understanding of the power of a good social media burn is something a lot of younger politicians could use a lesson in.

What else to do when there’s a forum talking exclusively about YOU other than show up and say “hi”? That’s exactly what Tun M did.

Taking to his Twitter and Facebook accounts, he wrote: “There is a forum on whether Tun M is too old to be the PM. I am present. I am here, guys. Say it to my face.”

“Say it to my face.”

If you’ve ever wondered just how many of us are but a shadow of our own braggadocio when taken to task by the very person we’re talking sh*t on, here is the reaction of panelists in the post-forum photo-op:

I mean —

Point, Mahathir.

Panelists included Institute for Malaysian Political Analysis (MAPAN) director Dr Kamarul Zaman Yusoff, psychologist Prof Datuk Dr Mat Saat Mohd Baki and Fitness Malaysia instructor Kevin Zahri Abdul Ghaffar. The event was moderated by Astro Awani.

Never one to hold back a cheeky dig, when asked why he decided to return to politics he told the present that he when he left office, he hoped he could spend the following years enjoying his retirement and going on cruises; however, the state of the country has forced his return.

Burn. Waiting for your move, BN.
