Last Saturday, 18 Malaysian projects were announced during Jomlaunch. Jomlaunch is an event organised by JOMWEB, a Facebook community with nearly 8,000 members which include app developers, programmers, IT specialists, and IT students.

Jomlaunch aims to produce and launch software, apps, products and services designed by their members. By having an event such as this, more members of the group are encouraged to be proactive, build and more importantly, complete their projects. Awesome local talents are showcased and this inspires others to create projects of their own.As most of the other projects are still very new and not yet polished, here are 9 out of the 18 projects that were presented:

1. Posto Express

Built by a small startup in Cyberjaya, Posto Express is an on-demand despatch platform which aims to provide a fast and reliable on-the-spot delivery solution for users, while providing income opportunities to despatch riders.

Despatch riders and users can be matched so that users can send parcels, documents, and more from anywhere and anytime. For deliveries that are carried out within the same territory, items can be delivered within 2 hours.

This delivery service, if it takes off successfully, could possibly change the landscape for on-the-spot delivery services.

2. PekanBanting.com

Pekan Banting is a geosocial app which utilises users’ location to share activities and current happenings around the area. Users can also chat and interact with each other to find out more about other locations. This app is useful for business owners as well, as they can advertise their services on the website.

Despite its name, the website is not only limited to Pekan Banting, and an app is currently being developed for it.

3. CastMyCode.com

This is one project that could be the lifesaver of every programming student. Programming codes can be confusing and CastMyCode.com wants to help students to access codes easily by providing a platform for teachers and trainers to upload programming codes for their students. As of now, each programming session that is uploaded to the site will expire after a week.

4. Mudahurus.my

Mudahurus.my is an e-commerce platform for online sellers to simplify and organise their sales. With a simple interface and specific tabs for each function, online sellers can create and save customer data, product information, purchase orders, and POSLAJU delivery status of items without having to visit the Pos Malaysia website.

It is a one-stop online solution for online sellers to store all their transactions in a systematic and organised manner. For now, the project is still relatively new and is undergoing a trial period; however, interested individuals can register at their website for further updates.

5. Sewapandu

The founder of this website wants to make Sewapandu the Airbnb of car rentals. The inspiration first came to him when he wanted to rent a car for his honeymoon, but realised that he had to browse through numerous car rental websites to compare the rates for the car that he wanted.

Users can use Sewapandu to compare cars and car rental prices as well as look at each car’s safety and maintenance record to rent the ideal car. Sewapandu is in the Beta stage now but will be launched very soon.

6. MaidEasy

This is one startup which was interviewed by Vulcan Post Malaysia recently. MaidEasy matches homeowners with part-time cleaners, all done with a simple booking feature. Rescheduling and cancellations are free of charge, and the cleaning companies are first tested and screened before partnering with MaidEasy.

Homeowners can also set out to hire the same part-time cleaner so that the cleaner will get familiar with the home and will be able to carry out cleaning efficiently with minimal supervision.

7. Alambiz

Alambiz is an abbreviation for Al-Amin Home Business, which is a Syariah-based entrepreneurship program for Muslims to enrich their lives with Islamic products and food that is in accordance with the Sunnah (the way of life prescribed as the norm for Muslims, based on the teachings and practices of the prophet Muhammad and the Quran).

Their slogan “Keberkatan Mendahului Pendapatan” means to put blessings ahead of income, and this reflects the goal of Alambiz to allow users to gain and give blessings to others rather than only focusing on getting a profit.

Items sold on Alambiz include books, gadgets, household needs, food and beverages, clothing, and more.

8. GoTicket

Originally founded in 2014, GoTicket aims to make it easier for users to buy tickets to Southeast Asia’s leading attractions. The team at GoTicket searches for new attractions, and then negotiates to get the best deal for users. They promise no hidden charges and that ticket prices on their website are always cheaper than the attraction venue’s gate price.

Occasionally, free tickets, discount vouchers and best vacation tips are thrown in so that users can make the most of their holiday.

9. Unimall.my

Unimall.my is an online community center catered specially for university students to sell, buy, or offer their services to each other. The variety of categories listed range from IT products, food, transportation, to books, house and room rental, and many more. As of now, only 4 local universities are listed, but this should increase as more students start using the site.

The other 9 projects showcased at Jomlaunch are Engine Scheduler, Nexmo Dashboard, DNS Vault, Myofis, Pong Flashback, SimpanKira, WikiMesjid,Trainer.my, and Baby.my. Do note, however, that these 18 projects are still undergoing improvements so some may not be operating at its fullest potential.
