A petrol station worker was killed when a Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) tank exploded on Tuesday.
Bernama reports that the incident happened at the Petronas station in Taman Mount Austin, Johor Baru.
In the 3pm incident, the victim, 33-year-old Mohd Faizal Mazlan, was reportedly nearby when the tank exploded.
The explosion reportedly created a huge fireball as traffic near the petrol station came to a standstill as passers-by gathered around to see what was going on.
Johor Baru Civil Defence Department officer Lt (PA) Mohd Aziz Jupri told the news agency that the Fire and Rescue Department is currently investigating the cause of the explosion.
State Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Mohd Rizal Buang, meanwhile, told The Star Online that a team of firemen were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call.
The firemen reportedly managed to turn off the the valve from the main NGV tank.
“Our initial investigation showed that the petrol station owner had informed the contractor after finding a leak on Monday.
“However, during the repair work, the tank suddenly exploded,” he was quoted as saying.
The victim’s body was reportedly sent to the Sultan Ismail Hospital.
