NGO lodges police sedition reports on Dr Mahathir

An NGO known for its ties to the Pakatan Rakyat opposition coalition is lodging police reports all over the country against former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, for his recent criticisms of current PM Najib Razak.

Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (Malaysian Youth Solidarity, or SAMM) told Malaysiakini the decision was made to bring charges against Mahathir due to his “seditious” statements, including those linking the murder of Mongolian model/translator Altantuya Shariibuu to Najib.

“Police reports are being lodged all over the country,” said SAMM head Badrul Hisham Shahrin (or Che’gubard).

“Yesterday one group lodged a police report at the Rembau district police headquarters; this morning two more were lodged in Kuantan and Hulu Selangor. This evening, Penang and Malacca.”

Badrul himself was investigated for sedition after he published a book touching on a similar subject matter, titled Di Sebalik Misteri Pembunuhan Altantuya (Behind The Mystery of the Altantuya Murder).

He said if he was probed by the police over his writing, Dr Mahathir should also face similar treatment for his blog posts.

Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said Dr Mahathir would not be investigated under the Sedition Act over his blog statements.
